Custom Solid Wood Table Tops for Contract Furniture Manufacturers

For contract furniture manufacturers who build metal base tables, the quality of the wood top is everything. It is the surface your customer touches, the material that defines the aesthetic of the piece, and the component most likely to show wear over time. Specifying the right wood top — from the right supplier — is one of the most consequential decisions in your product development process.

West Contract Furniture supplies precision-crafted solid wood table tops to contract furniture manufacturers across North America. Whether you need a single prototype top or a regular weekly supply program, we manufacture to your exact specifications with the consistency and quality your brand demands.

Species Options

We supply solid wood table tops in four premium North American hardwood species:

  • Solid Maple — our most popular species for contract applications. Clean, consistent grain, exceptional hardness and durability, takes finishes beautifully. Ideal for high-use commercial environments.
  • Ambrosia Maple — standard maple with the distinctive natural figuring created by the ambrosia beetle during the tree's growth. Each top is unique — streaks of grey, brown, and cream create a characterful, organic appearance that is highly sought after in contemporary commercial design.
  • Solid White Oak — currently the most specified species in contemporary commercial and hospitality design. Tight, consistent grain with a subtle ray fleck character. Cool, sophisticated tone that pairs beautifully with metal bases in both light and dark finishes.
  • Solid Walnut — rich, dark, and deeply characterful. Walnut tops make an immediate premium statement and are particularly well suited to hospitality, executive, and VIP applications where material quality communicates brand values.

Construction — Plain Sawn or Butcher Block

We offer solid wood tops in two construction methods:

Plain Sawn

Traditional solid wood top construction with face grain running across the surface. Plain sawn tops showcase the natural grain patterns and figure of the wood species — the cathedral grain patterns of maple, the ray fleck of white oak, the rich swirling grain of walnut. This is the most common construction for restaurant, hospitality, and office table applications.

Butcher Block (Edge Grain)

Edge grain construction with the grain running vertically on the surface — the same construction used in professional butcher blocks and high-end kitchen applications. Edge grain tops are exceptionally hard-wearing, highly resistant to surface scratching and marking, and have a distinctive linear grain appearance that works particularly well in contemporary commercial environments. Available in all four species.

Thickness Options

We supply solid wood tops in two standard thicknesses:

  • 1" thick — our standard commercial thickness. Clean, refined profile that works well with most metal table bases. Suitable for dining, café, conference, and workspace applications.
  • 1.75" thick — our heavy commercial thickness. Substantial visual weight that communicates quality and permanence. Particularly well suited to community tables, lounge applications, and hospitality installations where the top is a design statement as much as a functional surface.

Shapes & Edge Profiles

We supply tops in a wide range of shapes and edge profiles to meet your design specifications:

Shapes

  • Rectangular — any dimension
  • Round — any diameter
  • Oval — any dimension
  • Custom shapes — speak to our team about other shapes for specific project requirements

Edge Profiles

  • Square eased edge — clean, contemporary, most commonly specified
  • Custom profiles — radius, bevel, waterfall, and other profiles available on request

Finishing Options

We offer three finishing options to suit your manufacturing process:

Rubio Monocoat Oil

A premium natural oil finish that penetrates and bonds with the wood fibres rather than sitting on the surface. Rubio Monocoat enhances the natural character of the wood — deepening grain, enriching colour, and providing a tactile, natural surface feel. Available in a wide range of colour tones from natural through to deep stained options. Greenguard certified — suitable for projects with indoor air quality requirements.

PU Acrylic

A commercial-grade polyurethane acrylic topcoat finish providing a durable, protective surface suitable for high-use commercial environments. Available in matte, satin, and semi-gloss sheens. Greenguard certified — suitable for LEED and other green building certification requirements.

Sanded / Unfinished

Precision sanded to your specified grit, ready for your own finishing process. Ideal for manufacturers who prefer to apply their own finish system or need to match an existing finish in their product line.
